I have tremendous respect to MIT for the ballsy moves they sometimes make at education technology. The most recent one (together with Harvard)  is releasing the platform of edX under an open-source license, as it was announced on their website. edX (how do you capitalize this? crazy..) is a joint MOOC project between Harvard and MIT.
